El Mercado

before i go into our trip to the market, just have to say that i'm SO SO SO excited my brother and sister-in-law are having a baby BOY!!! YAY!

since i didn't take any pictures at Thanksgiving (completely forgot to...)  i went to the market with Madre this morning and took a few pictures. i'm still really (like really really) shy about taking pictures of people. i think i need to get one of these spy lenses. or i could just get over my fear of taking pictures of strangers ;)

our local market is up on the mountain en El Centro. all of the vendors come and set up their little booths on the closed off streets. it's colorful and chaotic.

this guy was trying SO hard to sell his last carrots. it was adorable.

living in Costa Rica is expensive, but the food is NOT! you can get a pound of mangoes for 2 dollars, and a pineapple for 50 cents. it's fantastic.

this is what a traditional "campesino" (farmer) looks like in CR. he's got his bucket hat, his collared shirt, jeans, and boots.

i didn't get too many pictures, but you get the gist :)
while we were there, we got cucumbers, mangoes, lettuce, cilantro, tomatoes, and watermelon all for under $5. nice.
